A body double that’s just a pair of eyes

Working next to someone makes it easier to start and stay on task. FocusDo gives you a quieter version you can use any time: no video call, no schedule, no one else in the room.

What is body doubling?

Body doubling means doing a task while someone else is simply there with you. It’s a popular strategy for ADHD. The other person doesn’t help; their presence makes starting feel lighter and drifting a little more noticeable. The Cleveland Clinic and the Attention Deficit Disorder Association both have good introductions. There isn’t much formal research yet, but it’s low-risk and easy to try.

When other people are the hard part

Sessions start on the hour; motivation doesn’t. Some days you don’t want a camera on. And the moment you finally can start is rarely when anyone else is around.

How FocusDo does it

In Focus Mode, a pair of eyes sits above your task. They look around and blink while you work, and react when you cross something off. Leave for another app and your task follows you into the Dynamic Island, checking in every couple of minutes while you’re away.

Why it can help

Nobody knows exactly why yet, but the explanations people give are consistent. Someone being there turns “I should start” into “I’m starting now.” It makes drifting off a little more noticeable. And it breaks the quiet of working alone, which is where a lot of procrastination seems to happen. You don’t need all three to get something out of it.

Ways to body double, compared

How to body double on your own

  1. Prop your phone up where you can see it, with FocusDo open.
  2. Name the task, out loud or in your head.
  3. Start with something that takes two minutes.
  4. When a nudge arrives, don’t argue with it. Just come back.

If what you need is a live human, a service like Focusmate or a friend on a call will do more than any app can. FocusDo is for all the other times.

If you often lose the thread halfway through a task, you might also like why you keep getting distracted while working.

Questions

Does it use my camera or microphone?

No. FocusDo never asks for camera or microphone access. The eyes are an animation.

Is it an AI companion?

No chatbot, no AI. The eyes don’t talk and don’t analyze anything. They just sit with you.

Does body doubling work for ADHD?

Many people with ADHD say having someone there makes it easier to start and stay on task, and it’s a common tip from ADHD coaches and organizations. Formal research is still thin, so treat it as something to try, not a treatment.

Can I use it with Focusmate or a study stream?

Yes. Use FocusDo to pick the one task for the session, and let the other body double keep you company.

Pick one thing. Start there.
